BJP functionary arrested for derogatory tweet in Kanpur
text_fieldsKanpur: Four days elapsed since the communal violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur over a derogatory tweet on Prophet Muhammad by Harshit Srivastava, a BJP officer bearer, before he was arrested on charges of spoiling the atmosphere through his objectionable posts.
When the situation got worse over the remarks of the same sort by other two BJP leaders, inviting flak from the Muslim countries, Srivastava has been forced to delete his tweet. But a case has been making round against him that has taken its way with his arrest yesterday.
The Kanpur Police Commissioner Vijay Meena said the force will ensure that no one is spared who disturb the religious sentiments.
Several people were reported to have been injured in a stone pelting milieu last Friday when two groups stood either sides after a call for shutting markets and shops in protest against derogatory remarks against the Prophet by Nupur Sharma during a TV debate on the Gyanvapi mosque issue.
While the police registered a case against 1500 named and unnamed people in connection with the violence, over 50 people are in the custody. On Monday, the Kanpur police had released posters with 40 images of people allegedly involved in the violence.
