BJP Delhi Chief Minister will not occupy Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’

New Delhi: More than 26 years after returning to power in the national capital, the BJP leadership is reportedly working to announce the new chief minister for the state.

Although the party has not yet zeroed on any of the top contenders, it is decided that the new chief minister will not occupy Flagstaff Road bungalow in Civil Lines where Arvind Kejriwal resided as the chief minister, NDTV reported citing sources.

Dubbed as 'Sheesh Mahal', Kejriwal’s residence emerged as a talking point during the campaign with the BJP alleging ‘big scam’ in the renovation of official bungalow.

The BJP coined the term ‘Sheesh Mahal’ to mean an opulent house, which apparently left Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP defenselessly in trouble.

The BJP returned to power bagging 48 seats in the 70-member assembly, reducing AAP to just 22 seats with the congress failing to garner even a single seat for the third consecutive time.

Days after the historic win, the BJP leadership is working to choose next chief minister with newly-elected MLA Parvesh Verma emerging as the potential candidate.

The 47-year-old, a former two-time MP for West Delhi, defeated Kejriwal in the New Delhi seat in the assembly elections.

Verma, son of late Sahib Singh Verma, former Delhi Chief Minister, told media that BJP leadership would decide the next chief minister.

The names of contenders currently doing round include Satish Upadhyay, Ashish Sood, Jitendra Mahajan, and Vijender Gupta.

The swearing-ceremony will take place after PM Modi returns from his US visit this week, according to the report.
