BJP, AAP supporters back meat ban on "Navratri": poll suggests
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The supporters of AAP and BJP support the recent decision of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to 'ban' the sale of non-vegetarian food during the nine days of the Navratri festival, IANS found through its IANS-CVoter survey. However, all the Congress supporters opposed the proposed restriction, IANS reported.
The SDMC's decision had sparked a controversy.
IANS claims that most of those who voted nationwide in the polls have supported the ban. It said 61 per cent of the voters supported the ban while a little more than 28 per cent opposed it. It adds that 10 per cent of the voters had no opinion.
The survey result further says that 50.5 per cent disagreed with the proposition stating that such bans or restrictions are not constitutional and against free choice. Also, 54 per cent responded that the prohibition is to target the Muslim community.
IANS reports that most Indians are non-vegetarian, even though they opt for restrictions during religious festivals.
