Bihar declares paid holiday for voting days during Lok Sabha polls

Patna: The Bihar government has announced a paid holiday on voting days during the Lok Sabha polls for both public and private sector employees, officials confirmed on Monday.

Voting for the 40 Lok Sabha seats in the state is scheduled to occur in seven phases spanning from April 19 to June 1. Additionally, the bypoll for the Agiaon assembly constituency in Bhojpur will be conducted on June 1.

According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), all offices and workplaces in the Lok Sabha constituencies scheduled for voting on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1 will observe a holiday.

The notification cited Section 135 'B' of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which provides for granting paid leave to employees on the day of voting.
