Bhopal student dies after brutal police beating; 2 constables booked
text_fieldsBhopal: A murder case has been registered against two police constables allegedly involved in the death of a 22-year-old BTech student, Udit Gaayke, following an assault in Bhopal, officials said on Saturday.
The accused constables, Santosh Bamaniya and Saurabh Arya, were suspended after the incident came to light on Friday. A video clip circulating on social media reportedly shows one policeman holding the victim while the other strikes him with a stick.
Bhopal Zone-2 Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vivek Singh confirmed that a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was filed against the constables after the post-mortem report was received. “The duo will be arrested soon,” he added.
According to Gaayke’s friends, they were partying in Indrapuri on Thursday night. Around 1:30 am, while one friend was dropping Gaayke home, he reportedly spotted the police and ran into an alley. The constables allegedly chased him, beat him, and demanded Rs 10,000 to stop the assault, his friends said. Gaayke was later found with a torn shirt and bruises and rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Another official said the deceased’s parents work in Bhopal, and his brother-in-law is a deputy superintendent of police in Balaghat district.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with authorities assuring strict action against the accused officers.
