Bengaluru violence: Police signals widespread arrests ahead

Bengaluru: Karnataka police has arrested atleast 110 persons in relation to violent incidents happened here on Tuesday night following posting a derogatory comment in social media by an MLA's relative.

Central Crime Branch (CCB) Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain told media that identification and arrests will be continued as "upto 1,000 people had been involved in the violence".

All the 110 accused have been arrested under IPC Section 307 for attempt to murder and for obstructing a public servant.

Three people died in the police firing, 60 policemen were injured and several vehicles were set ablaze in Bengaluru on Tuesday night after Congress MLA Akanda Srinivas Murthy's nephew Naveen allegedly posted a derogatory message on social media. Naveen has been arrested.

Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) convenor Mujahid Pasha said that the arrested people includes one of their prominent leaders Muzammil Pasha. Mujahid told that Muzammil had reached the street to disperse the violent mob.

Muzammil Pasha had competed in Bengaluru Corporation election in 2015.

Relatives of the arrested accused police of barging into homes during night hours and taking innocents to custody.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya stirred up a controversy as he called upon the government to confiscate the 'rioters' properties as the Yogi Adityanath government did in Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath government has been accused of unwarranted arrests and confiscation of properties aftermath the anti-CAA protests in February.
