Bengaluru man lost Rs 1.5 Lakh chatting with AI generated woman on dating app
text_fieldsBengaluru: A Fraudster extorted more than Rs 1.5 lakh from a 26-year-old man in Bengaluru contacting him on a dating app using AI generated fake profile, NDTV reported.
The resident of Ejipura, working in a private company, filed a complaint with the Central Crime Branch CEN Police Station.
In his complaint, the man said that he had created a profile on a dating app on January 5; following which, he received a friend request from a woman identifying herself as Ishani.
The duo began chatting, thus ending up sharing personal details before exchanging mobile phone numbers.
Afterwards, the woman initiated a video call in which she appeared nude on camera and encourage him to take off his clothes.
The man complied without knowing that the fraudster was secretly recording the act.
Later sending him the video clip via WhatsApp, the fraudster demanded money for not to share them with his family, friends and on social media platforms.
The victim initially transferred Rs 60,000 and later Rs 93,000 to bank accounts provided by the accused.
However, when the accused demanded more money, he approached the police.
Police found that the dating profile was fake, which was created using AI.
Investigators also suspect the nude woman seen during the video call was an AI-generated figure, not a real person.
Further investigation is underway to identify and nab the cybercriminals.
