Gurugram: The Gurugram Police have arrested a woman after she uploaded a social media video in which she claimed to have cooked beef for West Bengal’s newly elected chief minister.

The accused, identified as Jyotsna Bibi, is a resident of South Dinajpur district in West Bengal and was working as a domestic helper in the Chakkarpur area of Gurugram. Following her arrest on charges of allegedly hurting religious sentiments, a local court on Tuesday denied her bail application and scheduled the next legal hearing for June 8.

The controversy erupted on May 30 when local resident Dinesh Yadav filed a formal complaint at the Chakkarpur police post, presenting a video that took a taunting tone. In the footage, the woman allegedly remarked that she had cooked up some beef specifically for the West Bengal chief minister because she had been prevented from performing the Qurbani sacrifice during the festival.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, police personnel registered a First Information Report at the Sector 29 police station, arrested Bibi the very same day, and placed her in judicial custody after producing her in a city court.

During the bail hearing before Judicial Magistrate First Class Suman, the prosecution strongly opposed the accused's release, arguing that she could potentially influence key witnesses if let out on bail. A senior police officer confirmed that investigators have also seized and preserved the woman's mobile phone for forensic examination to trace the origin and distribution of the footage.

The incident follows a recent policy shift in West Bengal, where the state government issued stringent guidelines in May barring animal slaughter without a mandatory fit certificate from authorized veterinary officers and warning citizens of strict penal action for non-compliance.
