New Delhi: BJP leader Agnimitra Paul challenged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contest against PM Mod in Varanasi in 2024 polls.

‘Why doesn't Mamata Banerjee contest from Varanasi? If Mamata Banerjee has the courage to compete in place of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, then she should do that. You want to become Prime Minister, right? Then she should contest against our Prime Minister,’ news agency ANI qourted Agnimitra Paul as saying.

Paul has thrown down the challenge to Banerjee after Trinamool Congress sought to make her the face of the Opposition alliance.

Earlier, Banerjee urged the INDIA bloc to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement among the members of the alliance for the polls, according to the report.

Trinamool is looking for to speed up seat-sharing in order to formulate a collective narrative to present a credible challenge against the BJP, according to the report.

While Mamata Banerjee is open to an arrangement with the Congress in the state, the state leaders of the Congress are mulling over forming a similar rapport with the Left.

However, a previous attempt in 2019 assembly polls proved not successful as the Congress and Left failed to make any impact on the poll front.

The CPI(M) opted out of any alliance in the state with the TMC, the Congress.
