The Narcotics Control Bureau has seized around 3kg of a substance, suspected to be the drug pseudoephedrine, which was allegedly being smuggled inside the lining of three lehengas on their way to be shipped as part of a consignment to Australia. Fake addresses and fake names were used to ship the parcel, the NCB claims.

The team led by Amit Ghawate, Zonal Director of NCB Bangalore, intercepted the parcel on October 2. At least one person has been arrested with links to the case say reports. The parcel was booked from Narasapuram in Andhra Pradesh and was to be sent to Australia. The officials tracked the shipment and identified the consignor to Chennai.

The Chennai division of the NCB was notified immediately and they began a manhunt for the consigner of the parcel who has been caught. Pseudoephedrine is a banned stimulant. just over two weeks ago, Australian police had busted a drugs smuggling operation from Malaysia, valued at $140 million in heroin, in one of its largest on shore busts. Law enforcement officers working with the FBI warned that immigration officials too were involved with criminal gangs to smuggle drugs through the airport.
