Shivamogga (Karnataka): Alongside prohibitory orders, schools and colleges have been put on holiday in the district following the murder of the Bajarang Dal activist here.

23-year-old official of The Bajrang Dal identified as Harsha was brutally killed late Sunday night near Ravivarma Street in Bharathi Colony.

Given the communal sensitivity of the area, heavy contingent of police have been deployed here.

The police, fearing large scale violence after violence broke out across the state, are high on alert.

Harsha, a tailor by trade, was also 'Prakanda Sahakaryadarshi' coordinator of the outfit.

The miscreants coming along in a car chased him before attacking him with lethal weapons, making away from the scene.Harsha he succumbed to injuries at the hosptial.

Harsha, active in both Bajrang Dal and VHP, had allegedly put up a post abusing another religion and a complaint had been lodged against him in the Doddapet police station. He was getting threatening calls. Following the murder, thousands of Hindu activists thronged before the Meggan hospital and police had hard time controlling the crowds. Stone pelting reported from some places in Sigehatti area of the district.

More forces have been called to the area just as the police started hunt for the attackers; three bikes and one freight carrier were torched in Sigehatti in Shivamogga. The post-mortem will be conducted on Monday morning.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said on Monday, "The 23-year-old youth has been brutally murdered. I visited Shivamogga and I have also met his family. I have assured his parents and sister that I can't bring back the dead person, but won't spare the killers. The action will be initiated against them."
