Ashwani Kumar's party exit fans disquiet in Cong, seniors want introspection
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The members of 'G-23', rather a rebel group in the Congress party, once again came to the fore citing the simmering issues within the party to stop the Grand Old Party from slipping into decadence in the context of senior leader Ashwani Kumar's party exit.
The party seniors raised the issue as grave concern and demanded sincere introspection. Senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Manish Tewari are of the suggestion that withering of party leaders one after another is a matter of serious concern.
Azad, Tewari and Kumar were also among the 23 signatories who had written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi in August 2020, calling for sweeping changes in the party
At the same time, many other leaders expect an implosion in the party after March 10 Assembly elections if the results were in favour of the party.
Azad, quoted by The Indian Express, said that it would be wrong to assume senior leaders who left the party did so under any influence either from any individual or party. He proposed an introspection to find the root cause of these exits and causes of disquiet that makes even hardcore Congress leaders uncomfortable.
Meanwhile, the party did not make any official comment over the quitting of Ashwin Kumar, who had been the Union Minister for three times when the Congress led governments were at the Centre.
