Arrested Buddhist woman monk maybe a Chinese spy: police
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Police in north Delhi arrested a Chinese woman wearing the robes of a Buddhist monk over suspicion of spying.
The woman, who was detained from a Tibetan refugee settlement here, reportedly carried identify papers that gave her name as Dolma Lama having an address in Nepal's Kathmandu.
However the police reportedly said her original name is Cai Ruo, who has been living at the Tibetan refuge colony of Majnu Ka Tilla.
The locale is popular with tourists near Delhi University's north campus, according to NDTV.
Cai Ruo arrived in India in 2019 using a Chinese passport, police said after checking her records with the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer, or FRRO.
The woman, who speaks English, Mandarin and Nepali, told the police that some leaders in China's Communist party wanted to kill her.
The Delhi Police Special Cell is investigating the case.
