New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande paid his maiden visit to Ladakh after taking office as Army Chief. He landed in Leh on Thursday for a three-day visit to review force deployment along Chinese borders, IANS reported.

General Pande was given a brief on the security situation along the borders, with a focus on Eastern Ladakh. The high level of operational readiness being maintained by the forces while maintaining a high tempo of capability development was highlighted.

He later visited the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh, RK Mathur. During the visit, he was accompanied by Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, and Lieutenant General A. Sengupta, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps.

A detailed discussion was conducted later on issues regarding civil-military cooperation and the role of the Indian Army in developmental activities in the UT of Ladakh.

In this visit, General Pande will also go to the forward areas in Eastern Ladakh. Here, he will interact with troops along the Line of Actual Control.

(LAC) in one of the most difficult and inhospitable terrains in the world.
