Appropriate steps taken in Lakhimpur Kheri incident, says UP govt
text_fieldsThe Yogi Adityanath government on Thursday said that it had taken all appropriate steps in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident as per law. The Opposition should desist from raising the issue again for political gains, the govt said in the state assembly.
A minister's son was arrested and sent to jail after an FIR was filed against him, said Parliamentary affairs minister Suresh Khanna.
"He is still in jail along with other accused. The families of the deceased have been paid adequate compensation. Investigations are being monitored by the Supreme Court and what more does the Opposition want?" he asked.
Though the Congress had moved an adjournment notice on the matter, it was rejected by the speaker Hriday Narain Dikshit. Congress legislature party leader Aradhana Mishra Mona said that the matter was serious. The SIT set up by the government had found that the killing of farmers was 'well planned', she said.
The proceedings of the Assembly were repeatedly disrupted earlier. The Opposition sloganeered against the government on several issues and demanded the dismissal of the Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Misra over the Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Leader of Opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary raised the issue of police harassment of SP MLA Prabhu Narayan Yadav in Chandauli district as soon as the House assembled in the morning. He further demanded a discussion in House on the issue.
Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra demanded the sacking of Teni and raised slogans in the Well of the House along with her party members. The Samajwadi Party and BSP also came into the Well and raised slogans.
The speaker later adjourned the proceedings for half an hour.
