New Delhi: Following protests at its largest plant in China, iPhone maker Apple is planning to shift operations out of the country, perhaps, to India or Vietnam, reports say.

A factory run by the Foxconn Technology Group in China's Zhengzhou employees around 300,000 workers, bringing out 85 per cent of the Pro lineup of iPhones at one point.

Apple has long been planning to minimise its dependence upon Taiwanese assemblers especially Foxconn, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Workers at the Foxconn's plant came out in massive protests that were not wholly peaceful at times with some breaking the surveillance cameras.

Social media videos showed workers demonstrating out on the road over unpaid wages and the covid restrictions at the plant.

Foxconn issued an official statement apologizing for the situation, and blamed a "technical error" for the situation.

Apple also said iPhone 14 Pro would have delay in shipment which it attributed to Covid-19 restrictions in the nation.

China faced greater protests over a fortnight ago against the zero covid policy that meant long lockdowns and depressive life indoors.

Protests came days after president Xi Jinping confirmed another term in power and people demanded Xi to step down in a surprising turn of events.
