Mumbai: Anil Deshmukh, former Maharashtra Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader, was injured in stone pelting in Nagpur district on Monday evening, The Indian Express reported.

Deshmukh , who was returning after campaigning in Narkhed for his son Salil Deshmukh contesting as the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate for the Katol constituency, got injured after stones were thrown at his car.

Footage showed blood dripping from Deshmukh’s forehead with glass shards inside the car and was taken to Katol Civil Hospital, before shifting to Alexis Hospital.

Police said a group of unidentified person were behind the attack.

Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harssh Poddar reportedly said that ‘An investigation has begun,’ adding that ‘Police are trying to identify those responsible for the attack.’

Calling the incident ‘outrageous’ Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Supriya Sule said that ‘During the time of BJP the law and order situation in the state, especially in Nagpur district, has deteriorated and gangsters have got free rein.’

Supriya Sule demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and bring to justice the attackers and their masterminds.

In the polls to the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly on November 20, Opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi involving The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and the Congress is taking on the ruling Mahayuti alliance led by the BJP.
