A temple in Andhra Pradesh's Visakhapatnam has been decorated with currency notes and gold for Navratri celebrations.

The decorations amount to a total of Rs 8 r and the management committee of the Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple has contributed Rs 3.5 cr. Notes ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 2000 were kept around the deity, floor, walls, and ceiling. The temple is 135 years old.

According to the committee, the notes and ornaments are from devotees. All the valuables will be returned after the festival. Dhanalakshmi, the goddess of riches, is particularly worshipped during Navratri.

Last year, the deity at Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari temple in the Nellore district was adorned in notes worth Rs 5.16 cr. Organisers even made garlands, flowers, and bouquets out of notes. Kanyaka Parameswari temple in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district was also decorated with notes amounting to Rs 1,11,11,111.
