Amitabh Bachchan’s name found in Jhansi voter list, locals say he never lived there
text_fieldsLucknow: Amid allegations of voter roll discrepancies, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s name has appeared in the voter list of Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. His name surfaced during the ongoing Special Interim Revision (SIR) process in the state. The list also includes the name of his late father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, with the address recorded as House No. 54.
The names of the actor and his father are listed in the voter roll of the Kachiyana area in Jhansi. Official records state that Amitabh Bachchan cast his vote here in 2003. However, local residents say they have only ever seen him in films and have never spotted him in the neighbourhood. They insist the actor has never lived in their colony.
In the Kachiyana voter list, Amitabh Bachchan is recorded as the son of Harivansh Rai Bachchan, with his age listed as 76 and his address as House No. 54 — details that have left residents puzzled. The actor is currently 86, raising questions about how he could have been shown as 76 two decades earlier.
His name appears in the first section of the voter roll. The same address also features the names of Surendra Kumar (76) and his son Rajesh Kumar, with serial numbers 543 and 543 respectively.
In reality, there are no residents at the house corresponding to those numbers. Locals say the site currently houses a temple and that no one by the name Amitabh Bachchan has ever lived there. They claim they have only seen him on television and in cinema.
Several residents have also complained that their own names, despite having voted in 2003, have disappeared from the updated rolls. The development has renewed questions about the accuracy of old voter lists and the ongoing SIR procedure.
