New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned until 12 noon on Tuesday due to protests by opposition members who wanted to discuss various kinds of issues.

As the House reconvened, Speaker Om Birla addressed the interruptions that had plagued proceedings in recent days. He highlighted the need to uphold the dignity and high standards of the Lok Sabha, which is the foundation of the world's largest democracy.

“Our democracy reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people. Maintaining the dignity of this House is our collective responsibility,” Birla said, TNIE reported.

However, as Question Hour began, opposition MPs renewed their protests, forcing Birla to adjourn the House till midday. The opposition's protests on Tuesday centred on charges linking Congress to Hungarian-American businessman George Soros, as well as the Adani controversy.

The winter session, which started on November 25, has been riddled with disruptions. The first week was mainly unproductive due to protesters calling for discussions on issues such as entrepreneur Gautam Adani's indictment in a US court and the Sambhal violence. Last week, the House functioned well only for two days.
