Security forces in Manipur have appealed to village authorities and civil society organisations in Ukhrul district to discourage local youths from reacting to violent incidents in other areas. The appeal came after a combing operation was conducted in parts of the district following the killing of three civilians in a gun attack in Kangpokpi district.
Police said security personnel carried out searches on Saturday in and around Litan, Mahadev, Sinakeithel and nearby highway areas of Tangkhul Naga-majority Ukhrul district to prevent any spillover of violence from Kotlen.
The operation was launched a day after three civilians were killed in Loibol Khullen village in Kangpokpi district, The New Indian Express reported.
According to the police, joint patrols were conducted in villages inhabited by different communities, and several bunkers in the area were located and dismantled.
Officials said they had engaged with village leaders and civil society groups, assuring them of a continued security presence to deter potential threats.
The police added that community leaders were requested to raise awareness among local youths and prevent them from being influenced by incidents elsewhere or becoming involved in violence near their villages.
