Former Defence Minister AK Antony said that the BJP cannot be defeated without the Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family is the powerhouse of the party. "There can't be leadership in the party without them".

The Senior Congress leader added that the Gandhis are the guiding force in the Congress. They represent the ideals of the party and have supported 99% of the workers. AK Antony is known to be close to the Gandhi family.

His statement comes right after the proposals of political strategist Prashant Kishor failed. AK Antony responded to naysayers by warning that the Congress party should not be underestimated.

The former union minister expressed optimism over the election of 2024 and said that the Congress will make a comeback. He added that Narendra Modi cannot be defeated in 2024 without the Congress.

AK Antony served as the Defence Minister of India for eight years. He is the longest-serving Defence Minister of India. He also served as the Chief Minister of Kerala thrice.

Several other Congress leaders have talked about similar hope that the party's upcoming 'Chintan Shivir' in Rajasthan will revive the party. Congress leader Digvijaya Singh had said it is ultimately the Congress that has to move and put its house in order.

The 'Chintan Shivir' is scheduled from May 13 in Udaipur where around 400 delegates will participate from across the country. The party has constituted six sub-groups to prepare an agenda for the event. "I have a strong hunch that the Chintin Shivir will bring in a new Congress which is the need of the hour," said Mr Singh.
