AISA members who demanded ABVP members' arrest for JNU violence detained
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Members of All India Students Association (AISA), who were protesting outside the Delhi police headquarters demanding the arrest of ABVP activists involved in the attack at the JNU, were detained.
The Delhi police said that it has registered an FIR against unidentified ABVP members on the basis of complaints raised by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union and other organisations, while in videos being surfaced on social media students who unleash attack can be seen.
JNUSU alleged that despite making several intimations about possible violence to the Police, authorities were seen reluctant to act on. JNUSU also said that ABVP members threatened the students even in front of the police during the scuffle.
The violence reportedly erupted after students at Kaveri Hostel urged the canteen to serve non-vegetarian food when there had a warning by the ABVP from serving non-veg foods due to the Ram Navami puja.
"We decide the menu for the whole month at the beginning of the month. It's not decided on a day-to-day basis. ABVP has politicised the whole issue. Every year, non-veg is served. There has never been a problem," the Kaveri Hostel secretary said.
The JNU administration has urged students to refrain from incidents that can disturb the peace and harmony of the campus.
