Airtel revises prices for voice and SMS-only recharge plans
text_fieldsAirtel has revised the prices of its voice and SMS-only recharge plans, making them more affordable just days after introducing the plans in line with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) guidelines announced last month.
The updated pricing applies to Airtel’s special tariff vouchers (STVs) for voice and SMS services, with reductions of Rs 30 and Rs 110 for the 84-day and 365-day plans, respectively.
Previously, Airtel offered an 84-day STV priced at Rs 499, which included unlimited voice calls and 900 SMS. Similarly, a Rs 1,959 plan provided unlimited voice calls and up to 3,600 SMS with a 365-day validity. These plans have now been replaced with more affordable options.
The revised plans are now priced at Rs 469 for the 84-day option and Rs 1,849 for the annual plan. Despite the price reduction, the benefits of unlimited voice calls and SMS remain unchanged.
While Airtel has not officially explained the price drop, it coincides with scrutiny from TRAI.
According to a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), TRAI announced its intent to examine recently launched voice and SMS-only packs from Airtel and other service providers. As per regulatory requirements, such plans must be reported to TRAI within seven working days of their launch for evaluation.
TRAI has yet to comment on Airtel’s updated pricing.
Subscribers seeking data-inclusive plans will need to consider other Airtel recharge options. These include the Rs 548 plan offering 7GB of data with 84 days validity or the Rs 2,249 annual plan, which provides 30GB of data.
The updated plans are now live on Airtel’s website for subscribers.
