Deoghar/Jharkhand: After the deadly collapse of a six-story building in Gujarat a day ago, it is a two-storied one from Jharkhand that makes headlines. The collapse happened on Sunday, killed three people and injured three more. The victims were buried under the debris following the collapse, PTI reported.

A rescue operation was underway as a few others were feared trapped under the debris of the building that collapsed in Deoghar town around 6 am.

"As many as six persons were retrieved from under the debris and brought to the Sadar Hospital here. Of them, two were brought dead. Another woman succumbed to the injuries. The treatment of the three others, including a child, is underway," Deoghar Civil Surgeon Ranjan Sinha told PTI.

A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed for the rescue operation.

Deoghar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ritvik Srivastava told PTI, "A few more seem to be still trapped under the debris. The rescue operation is underway."

NDRF Inspector Randhir Kumar, who is leading the operation, said that efforts are underway to retrieve the trapped persons.

Meanwhile, in Gujarat, six more bodies were found overnight, bringing the total number of deaths from the fall of the six-story building in Surat to seven, according to police on Sunday. The Pal neighbourhood residence collapsed on Saturday at approximately 2:45 pm.

While a woman was rescued soon after the collapse, the body of a man was pulled out on Saturday night, an official earlier said. She was rushed to a hospital where she was undergoing treatment.

After the collapse, the rescue operation was launched with the help of teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the local fire department.

"While the oeration to remove the rubble continues, we do not think there is anyone else trapped inside," Sachin GIDC police station inspector Jignesh Chaudhari said.

The building was constructed in 2016-17, Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot said on Saturday.
