New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal congratulated his party workers for their hard work just as Election Commission recognised AAP a state party in Goa.

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that recognition in one more state will turn AAP a "national party' and he thanked people for their faith in AAP and its ideology.

For national status, a political party in India requires 6 per cent vote share in the last Assembly polls in each of any 4 states alongside 4 seats in the last Lok Sabha polls. Or 2% of all Lok Sabha seats in the last such election, with MPs elected from at least 3 states; or recognition as a state party in at least 4 states, NDTV said.

Emerged in 2012 from the Jan Lokpal movement, AAP became the second largest party in Delhi in 2013 and formed government with the support of Congress.

The AAP administration resigned after it failed to get enough support to pass the anti-corruption Jan Lokpal Bill. AAP returned to power in the 2015 poll in the state and is governing the state now after 2020 polls.

Recent assembly polls in many states saw AAP spreading its wings wider coming to power in Punjab and asserting its presence in Goa and is looking forwards to try its luck in the upcoming polls in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
