A released convict in Rajiv Gandhi case dies in Chennai hospital
text_fieldsChennai: A released convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case died at a Chennai hospital this morning.
Santhan, who was set free by the Supreme Court in 2022 having served over 20 years in jail, died of liver failure at the Rajiv Gandhi Government Medical College here, NDTV reported.
‘Santhan died due to liver failure, NDTV quoted E Theranirajan, Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, as saying.
E Theranirajan added that autopsy will be conducted on the mortal remains of the Sri Lankan national.
‘An autopsy will be conducted. Legal arrangements are underway for the body to be sent to Sri Lanka,’ he reportedly said.
Santhan, staying at the Special Camp in Trichy along with three others convicts since their release, had to be deported to Sri Lanka.
