Patna: A 56-year-old Muslim man was killed at a hospital after being severely beaten by a mob who suspected that he was carrying beef in Bihar's Siwan district on Tuesday night.

The victim, Naseem Qureshi, was a resident of Hasanpur village who was travelling with his nephew Firoz Ahmed Qureshi to meet some acquaintances.

According to Saran Superintendent of Police Gaurav Mangla, the mob stopped them at Jogia village, approximately 110 km northwest of Patna.

According to the police, the incident took place when villagers caught the victims near a mosque in Bihar's Siwan district. While Nazeem Qureshi was brutally beaten with wooden sticks, his nephew Firoz Ahmed Qureshi managed to escape.

The mob then handed over Nazeem Qureshi to the police in Rasulpur village, who rushed him to a hospital for treatment, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Following the incident, the police have arrested three individuals including the local sarpanch Sushil Singh, Ravi Sah, and Ujwal Sharma for their involvement in the mob lynching.

Additionally, two other individuals have been named in the police complaint filed by Firoz Ahmed Qureshi, and the police are currently searching for them.
