530 students served maggot infested food at Telangana girls’ school
text_fieldsHyderabad: Maggots were found in midday meals served at the Telangana Social Welfare Girls’ Residential School in Metpally, Jagtial, officials said on Saturday. Around 530 students were reportedly served rice and vegetables contaminated with maggots; a video circulating on social media showed larvae in rice and dal and rotten okra.
When asked about the incident, principal D. Madhuri reacted angrily and reportedly asked, "Who are you to question me?"
The Metpally case follows a similar incident in Nagarkurnool on July 9, when about 40 students fell ill after eating maggot infested khichdi for breakfast. Those affected were taken to Achampet Government Hospital for treatment. Local leaders, including Achampet MLA Dr Vamshi Krishna and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, who were in Delhi at the time, contacted officials and directed that medical care be provided.
Authorities have not yet released details of any probe or disciplinary action.
