In Maharashtra, while the total number of infected police officers reached 5,854 since the pandemic outbreak, 40,959 was the tally of police troops ranging from constable to sub-inspectors, the official said. Out of this, 46 officers and 459 personnel died of the infection, he added.

Maharastra once again tops the lists with heavy turnout in new infections, including those with the Omicron variant. Since the police are part of the frontline workers against Covid resistance, it is elevating the gravity of the situation. The state logged 39,207 new covid cases, a 26 per cent growth from the figure on Monday. It recorded 26 deaths too.

The cumulative caseload of the state reached 72,82,128 and 1,41,885 deaths on Tuesday.

In Indore, six passengers were denied boarding a Dubai flight after they were tested Covid-19 positive at the airport. A health official said that the test was carried as per the protocol, and out of 67 people tested, the six, including three women resulted positive in a rapid RT-PCR test. Also, five out of the six were vaccinated twice, while the last one was jabbed four times, two each from two different vaccines, the health official said.
