text_fieldsRaipur: At least four Naxals and a police officer were killed in hours-long gunfight that took place in Chhattisgarh's Abujhmad on Saturday evening, India Today reported.
During the joint operation, carried out by Police teams and District Reserve Guards (DRGs) from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Jagdalpur and Kondagaon districts along with the Special Task Force (STF), automatic weapons including AK-47 and self-loading rifles (SLR) were recovered.
It is reported citing an official that the DRG head constable killed in the gunfight was identified as Sannu Karam.
The gunfight took place in the Naxal stronghold of Abujhmaad where the security personnel were out on an anti-Naxalite operation.
Intermittent encounters between security forces and Nexals have been reported from the area since Saturday evening.
Police officials reportedly claimed that nearly 100 Nexalites were eliminated from Abujmaad last year, which is about more than 50 percent of Nexalites killed in 2024, according to the report.
In one of the major operations in the state in October last year, as many as 31 Naxalites were killed in Abujhmaad.
