Jammu and Kashmir: At least three terrorists were killed in gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector on Monday after they opened fire on an Army vehicle, India Today reported.

Amid the ongoing encounter with terrorists, security forces have seized arms and ammunitions.

Though official confirmation of the incident is yet to be made, it is reported that three terrorists opened fire at the Army vehicle at around 7 am in the Batal area.

The sources said that the security forces responded by cordoning off the area and launching a manhunt for the terrorists.

The latest incident comes just as the security forces have beefed up security in the Jammu region ahead of the Diwali festival.

Marking an escalation in violence, at least 12 people including two soldiers were killed in gunfights across the region over the past week.

Two soldiers and two porters were killed when terrorists ambushed an Army vehicle near Gulmarg in Baramulla on October 24.

In a separate attack in Tral earlier that day, a teenager from Uttar Pradesh was injured, which was the third assault on migrant workers in Kashmir within a week.

A doctor and six migrant workers were killed on October 20 when terrorists attacked a construction site in Sonamarg, Ganderbal district.

Just two days before this incident, a migrant worker from Bihar was attacked.

Following the repeated attacks, a high-level meeting was held at Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor's house on October 24.

India Today reported citing an official that the investigation into the attack in Gaderbal district pointed to gaps in intelligence just as undetected infiltration was taking place over the last one year along the Line of Control (LoC).
