Mumbai: Three policemen were named in a case registered by the Mumbai police on Saturday, alleging robbery and extortion of angadias and their employees in south Mumbai, PTI reported.

A police official informed that the Mumbai Police's crime branch had arrested police inspector Nitin Kadam and sub-inspector Samadhan Jamdade, but the third accused, inspector Om Vangate of Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station, has not been arrested and is a wanted accused.

The FIR on the accused was registered after a complaint was lodged against them by additional commissioner of police Dilip Sawant (South). This was after the police received many complaints against the three, including from Angadias' Association of Bhuleshwar, on December 7, 2021.

Angadias does courier service to move money, diamonds and jewellery on a fee. According to the angadias association's complaint, the three policemen stopped their employees and took money from them after taking them to Mumbadevi Chowky.

Later, investigations revealed that the accused had taken an angadia businessman and his worker on December 2,3,4 and 6. They forced money out of the detainees, and the same was captured by CCTV cameras in Mumbadevi Chowky.

The case registered as under the IPC sections of 392 (robbery), 384 (extortion), 341 (wrongful restrain), 34 (common intention) etc., at the Lokamanya Tilak Marg police station, the police official said.

After, the case was transferred to the crime intelligence unit of the crime branch. The probe on the case is going on, the police official said.
