1985 Air India bombing suspect Ripudaman Singh Malik shot dead
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Ripudaman Singh Malik, who was acquitted in 2005 of the charges in the 1985 Air India bombing, was shot dead outside his office in the Canadian city of Surrey Thursday morning.
Malik in his early seventies was getting out of his car at 9 am when he was attacked outside the warehouse of his business brand Papillon, according to The Times of India.
The Sikh leader spent over four years in jail after being accused of funding the conspirators to bomb Air India flight killing 329 people. Canadian courts freed him in 2004.
The gunman had his face covered and wielded guns in both hands, the report said.
Police found him lying with several gunshot wounds and provided him first-aid before Emergency Health service took care of him. Ripudaman Singh Malik, however, succumbed to his injuries on the scene.
Malik was in the news again in January 2022 after he had written thanking Prime Minister Modi for his " services to the Sikh community" singling out the opening of the Kartarpur corridor.
He also appealed to the Sikh community urging them not to unfairly criticse PM Modi in the wake of his many positive gestures to the community.
