Lucknow: Police have launched a manhunt for five unidentified men following the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old Dalit student on Saturday. The Class 11 student was allegedly assaulted in a mango orchard under the Banthara police station limits.

According to Vikash Kumar Pandey, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Krishnanagar, the incident occurred around noon. The girl was travelling on a motorcycle with an acquaintance to visit a relative when they stopped to talk in the orchard.

"Five unknown men approached them. They beat up her acquaintance, who fled the scene. The men then raped the girl," ACP Pandey told PTI.

The assailants reportedly warned the victim against revealing the incident before leaving the spot.

The survivor later informed a male relative, who immediately alerted the police.

Banthara Station House Officer Rana Rajesh Kumar confirmed the incident to PTI, stating that the victim's medical examination is currently underway.

"We have formed several teams to identify and arrest the accused. Prima facie, it appears that the accused are locals from nearby villages," SHO Kumar added.
