12.58 crores collected in fines in 16 months in Bengaluru for COVID SOP violations

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) collected a total of Rs 12. 58 crores in fines in Bengaluru from people for violating Covid-19 protocol in the last 16 months, reported The News Minute.
5,25,196 cases were filed for violation of Covid-19 guidelines. Additionally, the BBMP shut down 150 industries in the same time frame. BBMP data reflected that over 4.93 lakh people were fined for not wearing masks, with a total of Rs 11.86 crores collected. 31,339 people were fined for not maintaining physical distancing, with fines chalking up to Rs 71.35 lakh.
The data contains information starting from May 2020 till August 7 2021.
Fines were obtained from markets, hotels, apartments, bars, restaurants, bus stops etc by marshals assigned by the BBMP to ensure Covid-19 protocols are maintained in the capital city.
Dr K Sudhakar, Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education noted that the state recently crossed the four-crore Covid-19 tests completed mark, with over 80% being RT-PCR tests. This is a milestone for Karnataka in its battle against the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr K Sudhakar also added that the state holds the position for the third-highest number of samples collected in the country, with 3,338 swab collection centres and 252 Covid-19 testing laboratories. Additionally, he added that 81.45% of all the tests conducted in Karnataka are RT-PCR tests.
Bengaluru Urban reported 377 new Covid-19 cases on August 11, whereas Dakshina Kannada reported 422. The former has a night curfew in place from 9 pm to 5 am, while Dakshina Kannada has a weekend lockdown instated in a bid to battle the recent rise in cases.
5 deaths due to the Covid-19 virus was reported in both districts on August 11. Other districts such as Belagavi, Hassan, Kolar and Mysuru reported three deaths each, followed by 2 deaths each in Chitradurga, Kodagu, Mandya and Uttara Kannada.
