A 12-year-old boy, Taufiq Khan, was found murdered by around 10 people in Bhantabari village in Sitamarhi district on June 19; police say two people, including a woman, have been arrested so far.

Taufiq’s mutilated body was recovered from a field with multiple stab wounds, a crushed head and broken limbs, his family said. His father, Tabish Khan, told FOEJ the child had been involved in a dispute with other children and that the family had not known those people held a grudge. He said the attackers smashed Taufiq’s face with bricks and inflicted severe injuries to his neck and limbs.

Tabish Khan added that several suspects remain at large and accused authorities of giving only assurances rather than prompt action. Taufiq’s mother, distraught, threatened self-immolation if no action is taken within 10–15 days, the family said.

Some reports have suggested the killing may be linked to Taufiq’s friendship with a Hindu girl; this claim has not been independently verified. Police have registered a case and investigations are ongoing.
