New Delhi: As many as ten Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Konta on Friday, NDTV reported citing security sources.

Security forces recovered several weapons including three automatic firearms at the scene of the encounter.

Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan reportedly confirmed it had taken place in the early hours of Friday in the Bhejji area.

District Reserve Guard (DRG) started the operation acting on intelligence that Naxalites were entering Chhattisgarh through Odisha.

News agency PTI reported that exchange of fire is still taking place intermittently.

Meanwhile, details of casualties and types of weapons recovered are yet to be communicated.

Security forces last month shot death 31 Maoists in a forest between Narayanpur-Dantewada border in Chhattisgarh alongside recovering several assault rifles, including AK series.

The encounter was reportedly one of remarkable feats of security forces in their operation against Maoists in the state.
