Will not pay compensation to farmers who died during the protests: Centre
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar informed on Tuesday that the Centre does not intend to pay compensation to farmers killed in the ongoing agitation against the controversial agriculture bills. The minister was responding to questions raised in the Lok Sabha by MPs from different parties
When asked how many farmers died in the protests, the minister responded that the government had requested the farmers' union representatives that women, children and the elderly return home given the cold, COVID-19 pandemic and other hardships. The Center did not reveal the number of protestors who died.
The minister responded that the Supreme Court has stayed the laws' implementation When asked if there were plans to repeal the laws.
