India records over 2.17 lakh new Covid cases in fresh 1-day record, 1185 fatalities
text_fieldsIndia on Friday reported 2,17,353 Covid-19 positive cases, a new high in a single day count since the pandemic broke out. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the latest count comes after 2,00,739 Covid-19 cases were recorded on Thursday.
India's pandemic tally has now touched 1,42,91,917 cases. The death toll on Friday alone stands at 11,183, and the total fatalities due to the virus stand at 1,74,335.
Maharashtra reported 61,695 new cases and 349 fatalities in the last 24 hours, as per the state health department's report. West Bengal came up with its highest single-day spike of 6,769 cases and Delhi with 16,699. Given the unprecedented surge in the caseload in Delhi, the Union Home Ministry on Thursday told its officers up to the level of under secretary to work from home and that only 50% staff attendance is required at offices.
Mahrashtra (35,78,160 cases), Kerala (11,89,175 cases), Karnataka (10,94,912 cases), Tamil Nadu (9,54,948 cases) and Andhra Pradesh (9,37,049) are the five most affected states in the country in terms of total cases.
Last week, India had replaced Brazil to become the second worst-hit nation in total covid cases. Now, it has the second-highest active cases too.
The pandemic caseload stands at 13,96,60,993 globally. 11,16,04,556 case recoveries were reported while fatalities stand at 29,84,891 so far. The US with 3,22,23,714 cases, stays as the worst-hit country by the pandemic, followed by India, Brazil, France and Russia. Similarly, the US tops the chart of the total number of active cases too followed by the four nations.
