India's Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh and German Education and Research Minister, Bettina Stark-Watzinger have agreed that both nations will work together on AI research and startups with a focus on sustainability and health care.

The two officials met in Berlin and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing science and technology cooperation. The duo agreed that there are a lot of scopes to work together in AI. India and Germany are mapping each other's strengths in areas like the application of AI in sustainability and health care.

Dr Jitendra Singh was on the third of his official visit to Berlin. He said both countries are working in frontier areas of science and technology, including electric mobility, cyber-physical system, quantum technologies, future manufacturing, green hydrogen fuel, and deep ocean research. He suggested developing more joint cooperation in these areas.

Both ministers discussed the several initiatives for human capacity developments in science and engineering that worked out in the recent past. One such programme, Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research (WISER), has facilitated lateral entry for women researchers in ongoing S&T projects.

Stark-Watzinger backed the idea to further strengthen the bilateral scientific cooperation by partnering in emerging areas where both countries can work together to serve both societies.

On the second day of his visit, minister Singh proposed that Germany take India's help in researching atypical tsunamis generated by under-sea landslides with a focus on the Makran subduction zone. He was speaking to his German counterpart Steffi Lemke .
