Modasa (Gujarat): Three men cut a youth's hand off his wrist in Bayad in Gujarat's Aravalli district, alleging that the victim failed to return Rs 2,500 to one of them, IANS reported.

In the incident that took place on Monday evening on Diwali, the victim has identified as Vijay Salat and the main accused as Sailesh Barot.

The victim told local media, "I had borrowed Rs 2,500 from Sailesh Barot. On Monday evening, he came to my house armed with a sword to recover the amount. When I pleaded helplessness to repay the amount immediately, he hit my wrist and amputated my hand, after which he even hit my legs with the sword."

Vijay said that the accused, Sailesh, came with his father Kanu and Ravi Barot to attack him.

The attackers fled the scene after injuring Vijay. When he was taken to the Bayad government hospital, he got referred to the Ahmedabad government hospital.

Officer Sanjay, who started a probe into the incident, told IANS that though the doctors held a seven-hour-long surgery, they couldn't re-attach the hand successfully. Police recorded Vijay's statement and booked Sailesh, his father and the third person for the attempt to murder, he added.

Later, police arrested Sailesh, but the remaining two are still absconding.
