Zakariya, Hesham and Hanan Sha unite for Sufi flavoured music video; Shafi Kollam on lyrics

Kozhikode: A high-profile music video directed by acclaimed filmmaker Zakariya is being prepared for release ahead of the Eid festival season. Music director Hesham Abdul Wahab composed the score, with vocals by Hanan Sha and Hesham. Lyricist Shafi Kollam has written the words. The video is being produced by a company owned by Hesham and his wife Ayesha.

Described as having a Sufi flavour, the song’s melody and arrangement are by Hesham. Shafi Kollam said he has woven his lyrics around the sensibilities of the new generation’s music, blending the style of old songs with modern rap and beats to create a distinct listening experience.

Zakariya, who is juggling film commitments, said the project revived memories of organising cultural programmes at his hometown during Eid when he was a child. He added that the music video will do more than showcase a song, it will present a cinematic visual narrative.

Singer Hanan Sha said he was delighted to be part of such a major project. The production team said the video is intended as a tribute to regional artists who have remained on the margins despite their talent and that it will be a festive offering appealing to both music lovers and film audiences.
