Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news on X, disclosing that the film starring Hrithik Roshan is set to hit theaters on August 14, 2025, coinciding with the Independence Day weekend. Notably, "War 2" marks the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe, encompassing Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan" and Salman Khan's "Tiger" franchise.
While the earlier installment "War" (2019) was directed by Sidharth Anand, the highly anticipated sequel will be helmed by Ayan Mukerji.
Taran Adarsh shared the announcement, stating, "Breaking News... YRF announces 'War 2' release date: Independence Day Weekend 2025... The original "War" centered around Major Kabir Dhaliwal, portrayed by Hrithik Roshan, alongside Tiger Shroff and Vaani Kapoor in pivotal roles. In a recent development, Jr NTR joined the cast as the primary antagonist, confirming his participation in April this year.
An insider previously revealed, "Jr NTR is locking horns with Hrithik Roshan in War 2. It's going to be epic! Their battle of wits and their fierce showdown will definitely be an action spectacle to remember on the big screen. War is now a true-blue pan-Indian film."
Director Ayan Mukerji hinted at the thrilling challenge posed by "War 2" in an Instagram note earlier this year. Although he didn't explicitly name the film, he expressed his excitement, stating, "An opportunity that challenges me and terribly excites me... one where I will learn, be inspired and where I will grow! So, I have decided to take it up."
As anticipation builds for the film's release, fans eagerly await the announcement regarding the female lead opposite Hrithik Roshan in "War 2," which remains undisclosed thus far.
