Actor and producer Sohum Shah has officially announced that a sequel to his widely acclaimed 2018 film Tumbbad is in the works.

This comes shortly after the original film's re-release in theaters.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, Tumbbad was lauded for its atmospheric horror and unique storytelling. Shah produced the film under his banner, Sohum Shah Films.

In his announcement, Sohum Shah shared that Tumbbad 2 will further explore the central theme of greed, which was a driving force in the first film.

"Tumbbad has been a special journey for us, and seeing the love it continues to receive is truly gratifying," said Shah. "With Tumbbad 2, we aim to elevate the cinematic experience and delve even deeper into the world we’ve created. The sequel will offer bigger twists and a more intense exploration of what happens when greed knows no bounds."

The original Tumbbad was set in a remote village in Maharashtra and followed the character Vinayak Rao (played by Shah) as his insatiable greed led him on a perilous quest for a mythical treasure guarded by the malevolent entity Hastar. The sequel promises to build upon the dark, mythological universe introduced in the first film, expanding the story and deepening the narrative.

Following its recent re-release in theaters, Tumbbad once again received a positive response from audiences, further fueling excitement for the upcoming sequel.
