Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri to star in Pariyerum Perumal remake
text_fieldsMumbai: Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri will be soon starring in a romance film produced by Karan Johar. Directed by debutant Shazia Iqbal, it is currently untitled.
The intense love story is the official remake of the Tamil film 'Pariyerum Perumal' starring Kathir and Anandhi. The 2018 film followed Pariyan, a youth from an oppressed caste, going to law college and becoming friends with Jothi Mahalakshmi, a woman from an upper caste. Her family is unhappy and harasses him.
The film deals with themes of caste oppression and discrimination. Due to the similarities of these themes, the team was tentatively calling it 'Dhadak 2'. Karan Johar has categorically denied that there is no film under development at Dharma which is called 'Dhadak 2'.
A source close to the project told Pinvilla, "A glimpse at the film’s plot and one would know Karan and co were contemplating on calling it Dhadak 2. The film is an intense romantic drama with a caste system in its backdrop. Karan and his team were bowled over by the film and have decided to remake it with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri."
When asked about the lesser-known nature of the original Tamil film, they said, "Karan loved the film, and felt for the story. He wants to make this love story and highlight the conflicts that exist within society. The film might get a new title, but the storytelling format is a love story set against the backdrop of different cultures in India."
Shooting will start in the second half of the year.
Both Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri are acclaimed actors known for their nuanced performances in the short time they have spent in the industry.
