Shruti Haasan was recently cast in the English movie Chennai Story after Samantha Ruth Prabhu's departure from the project. However, in an exclusive revelation, sources close to Pinkvilla disclosed that Shruti Haasan has also withdrawn from the film.
According to the source, Shruti Haasan has chosen to step away from the project directed by English filmmaker Philip John. The film, originally set to be a romantic comedy starring Viveik Kalra and Shruti Haasan, saw Shruti beginning the first schedule before her exit.
“It was very recently that Shruti started the first schedule of Chennai Story. However, now she has exited the film for reasons best known to her,” the source revealed.
Chennai Story is an adaptation of the 2004 novel titled "The Arrangements of Love" by Timeri N Murari. The film revolves around the life of a Tamil bisexual detective named Anu, who assists a Welsh-Tamil man in his quest to find his father.
Initially, Samantha was announced to play the lead role in the film. However, Shruti Haasan replaced her not long ago, only to exit the project herself.
This would have been Haasan's second English film after her 2023 release "The Eye" alongside Mark Rowley. While a replacement for Haasan has not been announced yet, it remains to be seen who the makers will choose to fill the role now that two prominent actresses from Tamil cinema have departed from the project.
