Director Ramin Bahrani's film is based on the best-selling, Man Booker-prize winning novel of the same name by Aravind Adiga: 'White Tiger' - essentially a story of class struggle in India emerging into the modern era. The film also stars Rajkumar Rao, Priyanka Chopra and debutant Adarsh Gourav and the trailer for the film was released on Wednesday by Priyanka Chopra.

"You believe your destiny is what was bred in you… till you find a way to break free. I'm so proud to be part of this project," the actress wrote on Twitter.

Adiga's darkly-humorous work has remained in the spotlight since 2008, as it tackles themes of oppression, caste and class struggle and the striking disparity between the rich and the poor in a country where wealth is as unequally distributed as resources. The story follows Balram Halwai who narrates his rise from "the Darkness" of his poor, low-caste background to his own success and the tribulations that he undergoes.

Iranian-American director Bahrani is already a man of some acclaim, having won two FIPRESCI prizes at the London and Venice Film festivals and is also the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship.

The film will be released in select theatres by December and will premier on Netflix by January 22, 2021.
