Popular streaming service Popcorn Time shuts down

The streaming service Popcorn Time has reportedly been shut down. The service, which was launched in 2014, gained massive popularity for making pirated movies and TV shows as easy as watching Netflix for free.

The users were able to access what they wanted easily on Popcorn Time unlike other complicated or risky services, The Independent reported. But it also drew flak from Netflix for the same ease. Netflix warned about the threat it posed, and its creators left.

Other developers picked up the tool and continued to host it themselves, thanks to the open-source nature of the service. It also allowed the service to evade law enforcement.

However, the service now appears to be dead as per a message on its website.
