Oscars 2024 nominations: snubs for Barbie and Leo DiCaprio
text_fieldsThe nominations for the 96th Academy Awards have been disclosed, revealing notable snubs for actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig for their work in Barbie.
Leonardo DiCaprio, starring in Killers Of The Flower Moon, also missed out on a Best Actor nomination.
On the contrary, Oppenheimer secured 13 nominations, while Poor Things and Killers Of The Flower Moon earned 11 and 10 nods, respectively. Lily Gladstone, DiCaprio's co-star and Golden Globe winner, is in the running for an Oscar.
Despite the disappointment for Barbie, America Ferrera is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and Ryan Gosling received a nod for Best Supporting Actor for his song "I'm Just Ken."
The acting nominations for Oppenheimer were anticipated, with Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt nominated for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Other Golden Globe winners, including Emma Stone and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, also made the nominee list.
Beginning this year, the Academy has implemented a diversity rule for Best Picture nominees, requiring films to meet specific representation and inclusion standards. The move aims to enhance the portrayal and employment of underrepresented communities, such as women, LGBTQ+, and various racial, ethnic, and disabled groups.
The Oscars ceremony is scheduled for March 10 in Los Angeles, with Jimmy Kimmel returning as the host.
